Today Sunday marks the end of an intense week of rope. We’re not sure why but the stars seem to have conspired to bring us a wonderful week of ropey adventures. Here are some highlights.
Drawn to Rope Private Trial
Our friend and talented artist Singingtree came over to test out some ideas for our little pet project ‘Drawn to Rope‘, a rope life drawing event to be trialled in January 2015. The details are being finalised, but the idea is simple, we’ll offer artists and anyone with pencil and paper the opportunity to draw various people in rope. We’re keeping it quite traditional and Shibari-inspired for the first one, but we’d like to branch out and hand the stage over to other styles of rope and different aesthetics in future events. This is being run under Pop-up Rope Events (if you don’t know what that it, take a look).

Practice
We also practiced a lot this week for our BOUND performance. We were lucky to have received tuition from OsakaDan in Toronto in October when we were there for Morpheous Bondage Extravaganza (we haven’t gotten around to write about it because we don’t really know how to put into words this incredible experience). Anyway, OsakaDan is a friend and a talented rigger (deshi of Kazami Ranki); he is also one of the performers in Cirque Shibari (stay tuned for that!), and he gave us some really useful tips to work on rope performance wise, such as how to have a better stage presence, how to move more efficiently and tips to stay calm when things don’t go as planned. We have to confess, we never thought rope performance could be so fun, and that it could be a whole other world in its own right. Well it is, it’s also a bit stressful and a lot of hard work, but the feeling is incredibly rewarding and uplifting!

BOUND Shibari Night
We were really honoured to have been invited to perform again at BOUND. It was our 3rd performance at this event (our first one ever was almost one year ago to the date). The cool thing was this was the first ever time the event sold out! (so congratulations to the organisers). It was great to have been a part of it. One of the highlights for us at BOUND was having met Pedro, an incredibly talented rigger from Lisbon (sorry, he’s rather shy so no internet link here). We ended up having tuition with him the following day which was really very inspirational. We can’t wait until we meet again (which luckily, is next week!).
Thank you Maya Homerton for these pictures.

Here’s hoping for more epic rope weeks ahead.
